The   Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2021 , one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions was held in Luxemburg this year. Out of about seven and a half thousand samples the highest score in the red wine overall category was received by the   Cassiopeia Merlot 2015   from Jammertal Wine Estate Villány. This great red won the   Grand Gold Medal Revelation Red Wine   Award .   The relevance of this worldwide success is that no other international wine competition of similar prestige had ever been awarded a Hungarian red wine the highest score among her peers in such an open category.   The value and the magnitude of the competition is shown by the fact that medals have been distributed among 672 French, 507 Spanish, 389 Italian and 335 Portuguese wines, but the highest score went to a Hungarian Merlot!   The wine competition, which took place from 17-27 June, saw 300 judges evaluate nearly 10 000 entries over 9 days.   Producing a limited - edition big red is every winemaker’s dream.   Ars Poetica Pinot Noir 2017 is yet another new star in JWE’s internationally listed portfolio. An interview with Zsófia Kövesdi, the estate’s leading winemaker, about the new release. Where did the idea for Ars Poetica come from? I’ve always wanted to express my own philosophy about wine. I think that’s every real winemaker’s desire. Jammertal Wine Estate has developed its own approach based on many years of experience. For both our Cassiopeia and Koh-I-Noor brands the varietal composition and the style are basically determined. These wines are internationally recognized and sought after. In their case my main job is to design the wines based on particular customer requirements, adapting to the characteristics of a particular vintage, and produce the confirmed variants with professional precision. I won’t go into detail, but creating the harmony of taste, character, alcohol and contents is alway

Pinot Noir from Wine Grower’s Point of View

Wine professionals would agree with the statement that Pinot Noir behaves like a princess, being attractive, delicate and sometimes unpredictable. Zsolt Nagy , Jammertal Wine Estate’s viticulturist, gives us an overview about the challenges related to this variety. How can we please Pinot Noir? Choosing the proper location of the vineyard is a decisive factor. Due to early bud breaking this variety is frost sensitive. You should avoid low- lying areas. That’s why we planted Pinot Noir in higher altitudes in Palkonya and Diósviszló. However, outwitting the frost is important, but it is only one factor. A spot on a hilltop facing to south or south-west would cause serious difficulties because of the danger of overripening. We talk about a time frame of a few days, not weeks, when the optimal picking date can be chosen. We deal with a Sub-Mediterranean climate in the Villány wine region therefore our Pinot Noir plantations are located in north-eastern or north-western p
